An Elegant Thanksgiving Appetizer Set Up

Entertaining is one of my favorite things to do so I am excited to host Thanksgiving again this year. When our family is sitting around the table chatting and laughing, I always sit back and take it in for a few moments. I feel that when you look back at life you tend to remember things through rose-tinted glasses so I try to capture that feeling in the moment and not just when looking back.

Last year, I created a chic tablescape for our dinner. Since then, we since have updated our balcony with a pretty wall covered in greenery so I want to serve appetizers outside on the balcony this year.

Style & Life Blog: An Elegant Thanksgiving Set Up

Appetizers for Thanksgiving can be tricky…while you can certainly get elaborate, preparing a simple cheese and charcuterie board, some nuts and caprese skewers will suffice. None of these items require cooking (which is perfect since the oven is usually occupied) and can be prepared in advance.

Style & Life Blog: Elegant Thanksgiving Appetizer Set Up

Traditional Fall decor in warm tones like brown, yellow and orange do not compliment my condominium well so I opted for this rose and hydrangea garland. I used marble serving pieces, candles and this fun white pumpkin.

Style & Life Blog: An Elegant Thanksgiving Appetizer Set Up

Make your Thanksgiving special and surprise guests with your version of this elegant Thanksgiving appetizer set up! It is the perfect way to start your celebration and gets everyone in a festive mood.

In the Mood for Fall with New Candles

Fall is my favorite season…there is something about the crisp air, falling leaves and layered dressing that inspires me more than any other season. I usually spend quite a bit of time in New York during the fall season, but since I am not traveling as much, I am looking for ways to get in the spirit with the warm Miami weather. Fortunately, I have been able to get in the mood for Fall with these new candles.

Starting on the left…this  Magnolia Home candle creates a soothing ambiance with notes of lavender, clover, bergamot and spruce. The Maison Margiela candle makes me feel I am curled up inside by the fire…it has a sweet yet smoky scent with notes of pink pepper, orange flower petals, clove oil and chestnut accord.  The Voluspa Baltic Amber candle looks as good as it smells…the amber colored glass has a pretty warm glow when the candle is lit. It smells of the romantic notes amber resin, sandalwood and vanilla orchid. Nest always has lovely fragrances and this Cashmere Suede candle will not disappoint. It has a sexy, masculine scent of tobacco leaves, black amber and soft suede. This West Elm gold and white candle is more of a decorative piece but it actually has a beautiful scent of spices and amber.

Whatever your climate, try one of these candles…they will get you in the mood for all things Fall!

    Rebecca

    Lavender Lemonade Recipe

When it comes to serveware, I typically like things that are clean white and clear glass.  If I am adding color, I will do it with table linens, flowers or the food or drink itself. However, when I saw this pretty floral set, I could not resist. Over the past few years, my entertaining has transitioned from elaborate dinners to lighter fare…often just apps or desserts and this set is perfect for an afternoon with friends. I created this lavender lemonade recipe to serve but you could also use a sangria or punch.

    Lavender Lemonade

    Ingredients

    Serves 10

(you will need another pitcher as the above carafe only holds 3-4 servings)

    2 cups sugar

    7 lavender sprigs, including stems

2 cups fresh lemon juice (use approximately 10 lemons)

1/2 cup fresh lime juice (use approximately 4 limes)

    Instructions

In a large saucepan, bring water and sugar to a boil. Remove from heat and add lavender sprigs, lemon and lime juices. Let mixture chill, then strain. Once lemonade is chilled, serve in this pretty set.

Just add a plate of macarons and you are ready for a cozy chat with friends!

    Breakfast in Bed for Her

Growing up, my brother and I were obsessed with making my mom breakfast in bed for special occasions and holidays. I am not sure where we came up with this idea but we were always quite determined. We would wake up early, make pancakes and other items and surprise my mom with breakfast in bed. I would love to see what these breakfasts looked like…but she always appreciated the gesture.

If there is someone special in your life for whom you would like to prepare breakfast in bed…we have created a beautiful menu with no cooking required! All it takes is purchasing some pretty items and pre-made food and you will be sure to wow her.

Style & Life: Breakfast in Bed for Her

This pretty gold lacquer tray was a great find, it also comes in espresso, silver and white (it can be re-used to display books and other trinkets). This stemless Mom glass and these metallic rimmed pink glasses are nice little touches that Mom will love. The dishes and flatware are also available at www.westelm.com. Mom glass available at www.williamssonoma.com.

Style & Life Blog: Breakfast in Bed for Her

The next step is to head to the grocery store…almost all have a deli section with pre-made items like this Quiche Lorraine I found. Pick up freshly squeezed orange juice, croissants, pre-washed berries and pre-washed mixed greens. Get some cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, olive oil and fresh flowers. I found all of these delicious items at my local Fresh Market.  Simply mix up a little salad of mixed greens, tomatoes, feta and olive oil…then assemble everything everything else and you are set to impress.

Give the the special woman in your life a little bit of pampering with this beautiful breakfast in bed! It will be appreciated more than you know.

    Rebecca

    Cinco de Mayo Party

Confession. I love Mexican food. LOVE.  While certainly not healthy, there is nothing I enjoy more than sitting with a friend and having some chips, guacamole, salsa and queso over margaritas.  I am currently in the middle of a Whole 30 so I won’t be having any of those moments anytime soon. 😉

So, for those not completing a Whole 30, Cinco de Mayo is around the corner…and it’s on a Saturday. In the event you have been thinking about hosting a little Spring soiree, then this is the perfect time.  I have created this festive setup and accompanying recipes that are perfect for a casual weekend gathering.

Style & Life Blog: Cinco de Mayo Party

These dishes have a beautiful Mexican print…while you cannot tell from the photo, they are melamine so they won’t break! Perfect for outdoor entertaining. There are multiple items in this Del Sol collection and I mixed with some solid blue pieces and added some succulents to finish it off.

Style & Life Blog: Cinco de Mayo Party

For food, my original guacamole and margarita recipes are essential. If prefer to prepare margaritas in a pitcher so your guests can serve themselves, then I would recommend the margarita mixes from Williams Sonoma…their classic recipe is delicious and they offer skinny versions and fun flavors as well.  Be sure to offer a non-alcoholic option like lime Perrier for those who will not be drinking.

Style & Life Blog: Cinco de Mayo Party

If you want a delicious taco recipe, try this one..I discovered it on Pinterest and it is packed with flavor, color and texture.

    s

Chili Lime Tacos with Pineapple Salsa

    Chili Lime Chicken

1 pound chicken breasts pounded to 1/2 inch thickness

    2 tablespoons olive oil

    1 teaspoon chili powder

    1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

    1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

    1/2 teaspoon onion powder

    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

    3/4 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon pepper

    1 teaspoon brown sugar

fresh-squeezed lime juice from 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons)

    lime zest from 1 lime

In a small bowl, whisk chicken rub ingredients together and rub evenly all over chicken breasts. Allow chicken to sit for 30 minutes at room temperature or refrigerate up to 8 hours then bring to room temperature before cooking.  If chicken has been refrigerated, let sit at room temperature for 15-30 minutes.
Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium high heat. Once very hot, add chicken and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until nicely browned on one side. Turn chicken over, cover, and reduce heat to medium. Cook for approximately 5-7 more minutes, until chicken is cooked through. Remove to a cutting board and wait 5 minutes before slicing.
    s

    Avocado Crema

    1 medium avocado

    1/2 cup sour cream

    2 tablespoons mayonnaise

    1 tablespoon lime juice

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

    1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth, scraping sides down as needed. You can make 4 hours ahead of time and refrigerate in an airtight container.

    s

    Pineapple Salsa

1/2 ripe pineapple, trimmed and sliced

1 large red bell pepper, seeded and quartered

1/2 small red onion, peeled and cut in half

    1 whole jalapeno

1/2 cup loosely packed cilantro, finely chopped

    1 tablespoon lime juice

    1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

    1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

    salt and pepper to taste

    olive oil

Dice the pineapple, bell pepper, red onion, jalapeño and cilantro (I use my Vidalia Chop Wizard) and combine with remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Can be served immediately or chilled.

To assemble, melt cheese (I used queso blanco) on tortillas in the microwave or stovetop then top with chicken, salsa and avocado crema.   Garnish with cilantro, lime, avocado slices and cheese!

    His and Her Easter Baskets

Easter baskets are loved by kids but wouldn’t it be nice to receive a basket filled with goodies YOU would enjoy? If you want to surprise your significant other, family member or host with a thoughtful Easter basket…look no further, we have curated fun adult baskets that should give you some ideas on what to include.

Style & Life Blog: His and Her Easter Baskets

For “her” adult basket, I used a bottle of champagne as the base…you can never go wrong with a nice bottle of champagne. I added shower gel, perfume, hand cream, sheet masks, Iphone cover and mini emergency kit. All of these items will be used and appreciated by the recipient as they may be things that she likes but does not want to buy for herself.

Style & Life Blog: His and Her Easter Baskets

For “his” adult basket, I followed a similar strategy and used a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red as the base…I added a muddler, cocktail strainer, Guinness Chips and some chocolate.

    s

Have fun and customize your adult basket with gifts your family or friends will enjoy and have a Happy Easter!

A Simple and Elegant Easter Table

Style & Life Blog: A Simple and Elegant Easter Table

I have not hosted Easter for a few years so I am excited to be hosting this year. I have decided I want my table to have a clean and elegant feel. As mentioned in my Musco Olives post, I will be serving lunch and will be starting with a cheese and charcuterie platter and then serving a Greek inspired menu.

Style & Life Blog: A Simple and Elegant Easter Table

I found this pretty collection of plates at Williams Sonoma. What I like that they can be mixed and matched. I got the bunny dip bowls to use for olives and candies and focused on using the butterfly pattern for everything else. These butterfly pieces can be used for  a number of occasions other than Easter…a birthday, shower, Mother’s Day, so they are versatile enough to make the investment.

Style & Life Blog: A Simple and Elegant Easter Table

The pink cake stand is something inexpensive I found at Target but have linked another one here and a few others below. The gold rimmed plates, bowls and glasses came from West Elm. These pretty egg cakes came from Fresh Market…which tasted as good as they look. For floral arrangement ideas see this DIY post

Whether you are celebrating Easter or another Spring occasion, these pieces will create a beautiful table your guests will love and will make memories that will last.

Just in time for your Galentine’s Day celebration…or birthday party, shower, brunch or dinner party…we are sharing our DIY petite floral arrangements. When I am hosting, I like to give guests a little something to take home…these pretty floral arrangements are easy to prepare, economical and a pleasant surprise for your guests!

Style & Life Blog: DIY Petite Floral Arrangements

I chose to wrap these in kraft paper…you can also use decorative paper, burlap or other fabric. I picked up a variety of flowers from Fresh Market…I started with these beautiful roses, added some some wildflowers and nice greenery.

Style & Life Blog: DIY Petite Floral Arrangements

Simply cut enough paper for the the number of arrangements you wish to make and then start dividing the flowers into smaller arrangements.Style & Life Blog: DIY Petite Floral Arrangements

Trim the ends off of the flowers and then gather them together…

Wrap in one of the pieces of kraft paper, tie with floral twine and voila! You have a pretty gift for your friends. I like to put them on top of each person’s plate because they make your table even prettier.
